Who's Making A Comeback?
2015 was an interesting year in the world of pop. Carly Rae Jepsen slayed us all with the incredible 'Emotion', Fleur East stole the show with the brilliant 'Sax' and Justin Bieber actually released a great album. Who would have thought?!
And if you thought 2015 was good, 2016 is set to bring back some of the world's biggest acts and most underrated back onto the scene. Let's take a look and see who could be coming back and what to expect.
It's been over two years since Gaga released the underrated 'Artpop' on the world and we know she's been working behind the scenes on album 5 for some time. We know she has been working with RedOne who she collaborated with on 'The Fame' and 'Born This Way' which is a good sign. Expect a Winter release.
Was I the only one who was disappointed with 'Prism'? 'Roar' got old quick and the subsequent singles were nothing compared to the brilliance of 'Teenage Dream'. It's not clear who Perry has been working with but we can assume that Dr Luke, Max Martin and Bonnie McKee are in the picture. Here's hoping that album 5 is more Teenage Dream and less Unconditionally. I think a Summer single is probably most likely.
Everyone's favourite Swedish diva, Agnes has been off the radar for a few years now and I need a new album. 'Veritas' was a really solid pop album which included the sublime single 'One Last Time' and her Greatest Hits collection was brilliant. Surely we'll see a new single at least from everyone's favourite Swedish Idol winner? Right? RIGHT?!
After years in record label limbo, Michelle has finally broken free and signed a deal with Reprise Records. It'll be 13 years this June since Michelle released her last solo album 'Hotel Paper' so it's clearly been far too long a wait and after 2 albums were shelved, I'm excited to finally hear some new material and hopefully it'll be the pop/rock sound opposed to country.
This is one comeback we know is happening. All Saints were one of my favourite groups growing up and 'Pure Shores' is one of the best songs ever recorded. Their last comeback with 'Studio 1' didn't quite work out so here's hoping things work out better this time for these talented ladies. The album is recorded, the music video has been shot, expect an announcement any day now.
Remember when Britney was at her peak? Releasing bop after bop with killer dance routines? I miss those days. 2011's 'Femme Fatale' was quite good but 2013's 'Britney Jean' was absolutely abysmal and her 2014 single with Iggy Azalea 'Pretty Girls' was pretty naff too. I really hope Britney can reclaim her crown as the pop princess once again and bring us some brilliant tunes. The album will surely come this year, probably around October.
I used to be the biggest fan of Pink and her rock pop sound. I was a little disappointed with her last album, 2012's 'Fun House' as it felt like a retread of previous albums. Hopefully her long break from the industry has given her what she needs to come back with a killer new album. I'm not entirely sure we'll see a new album this year but we can hope.
She's just released the 20th Anniversary Edition of 'Jagged Little Pill' but apart from that, it's been over 3 years since Morissette's last studio album 'Havoc and Bright Lights'. It was quite a disappointing album to be honest, with only a handful of decent songs. If a new album comes this year, let's pray it's more like 2008's brilliant 'Flavours of Entanglement'.
On 8th July 1996, it'll be 20 years since the release of the Spice Girls debut single 'Wannabe'. And that song is still as brilliant today as it was then. It seems only right that the Spice Girls do something to celebrate this moment and a reunion seems likely. Will it be all 5 members or will Victoria say no? Mel B has hinted that something will be happening so let's pray it's a tour and some new music.
Lol. It's not happening.
